If you are new to the Conneaut Cyber Academy, we offer an in person 1:1 "boot camp" where new students can learn everything they need to be successful. You will be contacted by Mr. Messerall before the school year starts for more information regarding this boot camp opportunity. Attendance to this event is not required to join the Cyber Academy. Additionally, the Boot Camp is also offered digitally via video instruction if preferred.

Students in Conneaut Cyber Academy attend school online using the same school calendar for our district. They have the same days off as well. You can find our district calendar here.

We offer courses for all students in grades Kindergarten through 12th grade. We used specialized curriculum through Edmentum K-4. They provide synchronous 1:1 live lessons for students in this age range. We use our own teaching staff for grades 5-12 via our Learning Management System, Canvas.

Yes! Announcements regarding what's happening at the home school buildings are posted on a regular basis in the Cyber Academy Home on Canvas. Additionally, daily announcements for each building can be viewed via YouTube. Students are welcome to participate in athletics, band, assemblies, dances, and more!

Yes! We have had many students participate in both cyber and attend Crawford Tech. For more information, please contact Mr. Messerall or your school's guidance counselor.

Yes! All cyber students K-12 will receive a Chromebook to complete their schoolwork at home. These Chromebooks are district property and must be returned.

Our 5-12 students have access to two full-time cyber teachers in our Cyber Lounges available at Conneaut Lake Middle School and Conneaut Valley Middle School. Visit this page for more information on our Cyber Lounges.

Yes! At any time your child may message their teacher via Canvas Inbox (grades 5-12) or email (grades K-4). Additionally, you can set up video conferences at any time. Our 5-12 students also have access to two full-time cyber teachers in our Cyber Lounges available at Conneaut Lake Middle School and Conneaut Valley Middle School. If you take out homeroom, class changes, recess, lunch, class downtime, etc. most students average around 4 hours of class work per day. This is about the expected amount of time a full-time cyber student could spend working on their daily assignments. This averages out to about 30 minutes per class with approximately 8 classes. However, schedules can be different as well as workload in each class, so this is an estimate.

A full-time cyber student in grades 5-12, a student who does not step foot in any of the school buildings regularly, completes attendance each day by signing into Canvas and visiting the Cyber Academy Home page in a 24 hour period when a school day is scheduled. Instructions regarding this and more can be found on our Getting Started page.

A full-time cyber student in grades K-4, a student who does not step foot in any of the school buildings regularly, completes attendance by completing the assigned work for the day. So long as there is evidence of work being completed each school day, the student is considered to be in attendance.

What if my child misses a day of cyber school?  Just like missing a day in the building, you will need to submit an excuse to Mr. Messerall. You can email the excuse WITH a valid reason for the absence to me: tmesserall@conneautsd.org. You can also send an excuse to the following address:

All full-time cyber students are required to attend standardized testing at the testing location of their home school building. Testing dates will be mailed to the family of the student weeks in advance of the test.

All cyber students may also be required to participate in Benchmarking exams through out the year. Most of these exams can be completed without coming into the student's home school building.

Cyber students in grades 5 - 12 can check their grades the same as students attending in-person classes. Simply go to this URL:

Use the provided username and password. If you don't have a username or password for this, call your home school building's office and speak to a secretary. They will be able to set an account up for you.

Cyber students in grades K - 4 can check their grades after they log into Edmentum. You will see current grades on the Dashboard.

While teachers deliver the content to the student, grade their work, communicate, and encourage, a cyber student will always need encouragement and structure at home. As a parent, you can provide this encouragement and structure. The most successful cyber students have a routine for their school work and have family at home to help them stick to this routine. 

Students attending the Conneaut Cyber Academy in any form (blended, full-time, etc.) must maintain a 73% or higher in all Cyber courses. Students with an IEP must maintain a 65% or higher in all Cyber courses. When a student’s average grade in a cyber course falls below the thresholds provided, the student shall receive a warning. Students who receive 3 warnings may be removed from the Cyber Academy at the discretion of the Supervisor of Online Learning. Students with an IEP who receive 5 warnings may be removed from the Cyber Academy at the discretion of the Supervisor of Online Learning and the Special Education team.

We follow the district's policies on student conduct, behavior, and discipline. In most situations, students receive a warning in place of traditional disciplinary consequences.

First, students should always reach out to their teachers for assistance. Additional assistance is available for those who need tutoring as well. NHS (National Honor Society) offers virtual tutoring sessions. To get signed up, use this form. After signing up, you'll receive an email back from Mr. Messerall shortly thereafter confirming the details of the tutoring session.

If you're ever struggling with a Cyber Academy related process, attendance, or trouble shooting, try reviewing the videos in the tutorial assignments here. We also have Cyber Lounges (information about these is above) that offer troubleshooting for computer devices and a place to work on your cyber assignments and help from either your ELA or Math teacher. All students participating in cyber in any form must be self-motivated. Additionally, there should be a structure or routine in lieu of a building schedule. Cyber students should enjoy working independently and must be willing to put in the extra effort that online education requires.

Students in K-4 must have a parent or adult at home to help guide students through the daily assignments.

These are two easily confused concepts. Cyber school or Online Education is different in that students attend courses online provided by an educational organization, like the Conneaut Cyber Academy. These courses are taught by a variety of teachers employed by this organization. Homeschool however is curriculum and education provided by someone within the home and not by the educational organization.

Asynchronous education is when instruction and assignments are completed at a different time than when the instruction is recorded. This means students can complete this on their own time using their own schedule. Synchronous education is when the instruction takes place at the same time the instructor is giving it. This typically occurs over video conferences like Google Meet or Zoom.
